In August of 2020, the City of Concord advertised for Request for Qualifications ( RFQs) for a design build firm to construct a new fire station. The City received eighteen (18) submissions and formed a selection committee comprised of various city employees representing Engineer, Fire, Communications, IT, Legal and Finance departments. D. R. Reynolds was selected as the company to complete the new fire station project. From the time the contract was awarded, D. R. Reynolds exhibited quality traits that ensured us that we had made the best decision. Some of these traits included the focus on timeliness, effective communication, attention to detail and a very customer focused mindset. The department worked diligently with the D. R. team to design a fire station that met the needs of the department, as well as remained within the allocated funding available for the project. Throughout the process, from concept drawings through site work, construction and final punch lists, the D. R. Reynolds team kept a laser focus on the timeline, project budget and quality assurance of their subcontractors. This project occurred during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which created additional supply chain issues for materials as well as labor shortages due to pandemic related issues. However, despite these challenges, the D. R.Reynolds team excelled and completed the project, without delay, and delivered on their contractual requirements for the project. In closing, we firmly believe that D. R. Reynolds was the right company for the project and are extremely happy with the project. My name is Tim Tench and I am the fire chief of East Lincoln Fire Department. Several years ago, we needed to build an additional sub station and wanted to use the construction manager at risk model to do so. We spoke to several companies and decided on D. R. Reynolds to head up the project. By the time the project was to begin we were in the middle of the covid crisis. As you can imagine the D. R. Reynolds team was faced with many challenges concerning supply chain deliveries from the beginning to the end. However, I can say that as a company all the issues were addressed professionally and efficiently. I know that we were building during unprecedented times but I am thankful that we chose D. R. Reynolds to head up this project. In closing I would say I am extremely pleased with the company’s willingness to work with us and address any issues that arose during construction. On behalf of the Mount Mourne Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to strongly encourage you to trust D. R. Reynolds with your project. After meeting with several contractors, it was obvious that DR Reynolds’ staff were the only ones listening to our needs and ideas. We had outgrown our existing layout but had limited options for expansion. We tasked Bob Rawson with reconfiguring our current space and he and his team hit a home run with our new layout. Amazingly by only the second rendition, we could see what became our final design.

Nate Stroven and his project management staff kept the project moving smoothly. Proper fore thought and clear communication helped push our project forward quickly. Materials were on site ahead of schedule. Todd and Brandon kept the day-to-day operations organized. Their experience was critical in pointing out things we hadn’t thought of and while I spent 5 weeks recovering from an injury, they did everything as though I was still there. It was obvious that they knew what we expected. There is no doubt about who we will call for our next project.

I want to share with you a few words about our experience with D. R. Reynolds and their work and the people that represent them. When I first met Bob Rawson, project developer for D. R. Reynolds, I had ideas of what I wanted in our new firehouse. Bob took my ideas along with those of our building committee and put a design together for us. We were able to make changes to the design and see different ideas before the first drawings were made. This saved us money and made our plan everything we had wanted. Once construction started, we worked daily with our job Superintendent Larry Reynolds. Along with Project Manager Mike VanHoy, the project moved along smoothly, and we were able to complete the project on time and on budget.

Our project was completed in July of 2017 and we moved in the last day of that month. The project was a joint venture between our department and Iredell County. I would recommend D. R. Reynolds without any reservations. Bob, Larry, Mike, and the staff at D. R. Reynolds have become friends of our mine and friends to our department. Even now if there is an issue, I can still contact them, and they will help with a solution. They made our project a success and something our community will be proud of for many years to come. The Town of Highlands contracted with D. R. Reynolds to construct a new fire department main station. The Town selected D. R. Reynolds through the process of construction management at risk. The process worked well. D. R. Reynolds was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. D. R. Reynolds has experienced leadership that is very familiar with constructing fire department facilities.
