Featured Design-Build Project
Harrisburg Fire Department Station 3
Harrisburg, NC
To make the project endure, the architects used long-lasting materials such as brick veneer, energy-efficient insulation, and a metal roof structure. Construction of the building’s interior included using durable materials like bespoke wood cabinetry that can endure the wear and tear of a busy fire station, as well as low maintenance flooring like commercial grade vinyl tile. HVAC systems with excellent energy efficiency were installed, as well as LED lighting for long-term visibility in the truck bay.
Value engineering was needed beyond the initial design to keep the project on budget for the municipality. Some of the things procured were concrete foundations and construction site equipment. With the project contingency in place, the project had space to deal with unknown site factors that compelled it to remove subpar soil. Additionally, the fire department was able to add several things that were much appreciated, such as extra truck bay airlines, architectural fence around the sand filter, an update to the overhead doors, and an added fire hydrant on the site. All these extras were added throughout the course of the project and had no effect on when the final product was delivered to the municipality.
